Members of Russian cult slowly emerge
21 of original 35 people waiting for the end of the world have given up
The Associated Press updated 3:56 a.m. PT, Tues., April. 1, 2008
MOSCOW - Fourteen more members of a Russian cult that has been holed up in a cave for months awaiting the end of the world emerged Tuesday after melting snows caused more of their hillside cave to collapse, officials said.
The group, which included two children aged 8 and 14, were in satisfactory condition, regional emergency spokesman Dmitry Yeskin told The Associated Press. They were moved to a nearby house where the group's leader, self-declared prophet Pyotr Kuznetsov, has been living.
Yeskin said negotiators were trying to persuade the remaining 14 to come out of the underground hillside shelter, which was built in the Penza region, about 400 miles southeast of Moscow, last fall.
Vice Governor Oleg Melnichenko said more of the cave had collapsed around dawn Tuesday, and cult members told emergency officials that they had had a divine vision overnight that instructed them to leave.
On Friday, seven other cult members emerged as melting spring snows caused part of the shelter to cave in, sparking fears that the entire structure could collapse.
The group will remain in a so-called prayer house in the nearby village of Nikolskoye until Orthodox Easter, which is April 27, Melnichenko said.
Waiting for the end of the world?
A total of 35 people entered the cave in early November to await the end of the world, which they said would happen in May. They told authorities that they would detonate gas canisters if police tried to remove them by force.Yeskin said the group that came out Tuesday handed over three rifles.
Authorities have repeatedly enlisted the help of priests from the Orthodox Church in an effort to persuade the group to leave, communicating mainly through a small chimney pipe that poked up through the snowy hillside.
Some of the cultists had indicated last week they might leave the cave on Orthodox Easter.
Kuznetsov has been charged with setting up a religious organization associated with violence and officials later said they had seized literature that included what appeared to be extremist rhetoric. He had been confined to a psychiatric hospital since last November, but was brought Nikolskoye late last month to help in negotiations.
An engineer from a devout family, Kuznetsov, who goes by the title of Father Pyotr, declared himself a prophet several years ago. He left his family and established the True Russian Orthodox Church and recruited followers in Russia and Belarus.
His followers were not allowed to watch television, listen to the radio or handle money, Russian media have reported.

GRASSLEY SEEKS INFORMATION FROM SIX MEDIA-BASED MINISTRIES
"I’m following up on complaints from the public and news coverage regarding certain practices at six ministries," Grassley said. "The allegations involve governing boards that aren’t independent and allow generous salaries and housing allowances and amenities such as private jets and Rolls Royces. I don’t want to conclude that there’s a problem, but I have an obligation to donors and the taxpayers to find out more. People who donated should have their money spent as intended and in adherence with the tax code."
Grassley wrote to Randy and Paula White of Without Walls International Church and Paula White Ministries of Tampa, Fla.; Benny Hinn of World Healing Center Church, Inc. and Benny Hinn Ministries of Grapevine, Texas; David and Joyce Meyer of Joyce Meyer Ministries of Fenton, Mo.; Kenneth and Gloria Copeland of Kenneth Copeland Ministries of Newark, Texas; Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and Bishop Eddie Long Ministries of Lithonia, Ga., and Creflo and Taffi Dollar of World Changers Church International and Creflo Dollar Ministries of College Park, Ga.
Grassley has reviewed a wide range of non-profit issues over the last five years, first as Finance Committee chairman and now as ranking member. The committee has exclusive Senate jurisdiction over federal tax policy, including the policy governing the billions of dollars donated to and controlled by the nation’s tax-exempt groups.Letter to Randy and Paula White

Witness Divorce= How do you "prove" to Elders you can re-marry?
by Witness 007 inwell if you divorce there's no re-marrying unless you can show your ex has commited adultery.
do they expect video footage, or pictures like the"cheaters" style t.v show.
do you need "2 witnesses" as the bible states.

This thread reminded me of a case that I was involved in.
We had a newly baptized sister in our congregation.
She was so sincere and wanted to do the right thing.
In an effort to justify her divorce,
she showed up at the KH with a ziploc baggy.
The PO and I held it up to the light.
Inside was a paper towel wrapping a used condom.
NO JOKE: She had actually dug through her ex's trash and brought this into the elders.
It's amazing that I forgot about that one. -

Santa Barbara nuns possibly forced out of home to pay for priest sex scandal
KSBY-TV

Reported by: Melissa Mecija
SANTA BARBARA
Three Santa Barbara nuns may have to find a new place to live to help pay for a priest sex abuse settlement.
In a letter, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles notified the Sisters of Bethany that their convent was identified for potential sale. This is all to help pay clergy abuse victims in the record breaking $660 million dollar settlement.
The assessor's office lists the value of the property on Nopal Street at near $98,000 dollars, but it's likely to sell for much more. Nearby homes are listed as seven times that amount.
"To a certain degree, I feel like the victims themselves," said Sister Angela Escalera.
Sister Angela Escalera may be forced to say goodbye to the Santa Barbara community she's known for more than 40 years.
"I'm very hurt. I'm very very hurt," Sister Angela said.
In a brief letter, the Los Angeles Archdiocese explained the convent may be up for sale. All this is to help pay for the sex scandal plaguing the Catholic Church. Although the letter was dated in June, the sisters only received it recently. There were no phone calls or visits by the archdiocese.
"It was a very cold letter, and I think that's what hurt the most," Sister Angela said.
Sister Angela, Sister Margarita, and Sister Conseulo dedicate their lives to serving others.
Father Rafael Marin of Our Lady of Guadalupe sees this firsthand.
"They are wonderful. They have done a wonderful job," Father Rafael said.
"I think it's a shame," said Anna Vasquez. She knows all three sisters and is a parishioner at the nearby Our Lady of Guadalupe. "I can't understand why they would seize a property to pay for something they had no part of."
One of their options: moving to their convent in Los Angeles. It's an option Sister Angela doesn't want to pursue.
"I have to be realistic--I do not want to leave here. We work with the poorest of the poor. And they feel this is their convent," Sister Angela said.
The convent and the sisters: the latest casualties of one of the biggest scandals to rock the Catholic Church in recent history.
The archdiocese released a statement saying:
"These are painful times, but difficult decisions have to be made. All of us as a church are paying for the sins of a few people."

There's no possible way that this could be implemented ...
The foul odor coming from that rumor is suffocating ...
I wouldn't pay any attention to it.
Hmmmm????
Why are some of us so ready to dismiss this?
Could there be a mole among us? -

Maybe by catching a few traitors, the R&F witness will see them as a wise slave.
Also, the angels are helping this wise slave to clean out the organization before the end comes.
It may make the R&F dig in deeper. -
